Hastings Reads: Where Stories Meet Stewardship

On February 9th, members of the Hastings community came together at the Schaar’s Bluff Gathering Center for a night of environmental hope and action hosted by Hastings Reads. The event centered on Dakota County’s environmental history and highlighted some key local organizations and what actions they’re taking to make a difference in the restoration, conservation, and maintenance efforts in our natural surroundings.

Hastings Environmental Protectors was represented at the event, with our President, Joe Beattie, shared the following:

“John Anfinson, retired National Park Service, gave an excellent talk on changes in the Mississippi River through history. A series of speakers, from a variety of governmental and non-governmental organizations, provided ideas on how to help the local community and environment.

About 40 people attended the event, ranging from high school students to retired people. A number of people mentioned how much they learned from John's presentation in particular.

Many others said that there were so many volunteering opportunities of which they were unaware.

I felt very positive about this event! It was wonderful to bring together so many interconnected and networked enthusiasts for the environment.”
